OCD can cause many problems, it will cause people’s to modify their life to avoid the thing they fear the most and they will just put up with it until it becomes too much then they will usually try everything they can think of that is conventional (main stream) to get help with the OCD then and only then will they start to look for more unconventional approaches like hypnotherapy. Below, I will explain what OCD is the, the symptoms of OCD, events that cause OCD and how you develop a phobia, the relevant statistics. Then I will go over the different treatments available and finally how OCD hypnotherapy Melbourne can help eliminate your OCD.

What Is OCD? and How Can Hypnotherapy Eliminate OCD!

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder involving two elements: obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are repetitive unwanted thoughts that make you feel anxious. Compulsions are repetitive behaviours and rituals. OCD makes you feel as if you have to complete these rituals or behaviours, in fear of something bad will happen. Performing the compulsions can temporarily reduce the anxiety you feel with OCD in certain situations.

What Are Obsessions?

Obsessions are thoughts, images, or impulses that come into your head, no-matter how hard you try to block them out. They are always about something dangerous or upsetting and they make you feel anxious, guilty, or scared. Examples include thoughts like "Did I turn off the stove?" (Maybe the house will burn down), or "My hands are contaminated" (I might get sick).

Obsessions can also be images of frightening or upsetting things, like stabbing someone or running someone over, or they may be urges to do something you don’t want to do. Obsessions are always disturbing and unpleasant because they focus on things that are important to you, and that you don’t want to be true.

What Are Compulsions?

Compulsions can be anything you do in response to an obsession, in order to prevent it from coming true, or to take away the fear created by your intrusive thoughts. They can be visible behaviours, like checking or washing, or they can be things you do in your mind that no-one can see, like praying, counting, or repeating words silently. Compulsions are also called rituals because most people feel like they have to do them in a very precise way, and they cannot rest until they’ve been done properly. As a result, instead of performing compulsions just once, people with OCD repeat these behaviours over and over until they are satisfied that danger has been averted, or until the anxiety and distress is reduced.

Compulsions are performed sometimes in an attempt to make obsessions go away. For example, if you’re afraid of contamination, you might develop elaborate cleaning rituals. However, the relief never lasts. In fact, the obsessive thoughts usually come back stronger. And the compulsive rituals and behaviors often end up causing anxiety themselves as they become more demanding and time-consuming. This is the vicious cycle of OCD.

Fear of Heights

Hi Rod

I am just checking back in to let you know I recently conquered my fear of heights on our trip to Europe.

It was a huge ask as we ascended Mt Titlis in Switzerland, as it is over 10000ft high.

I can't thank you enough for the help and positivity you gave me. Without that I would have missed a beautiful experience. A big thank you again.

Regards

Trust Issues

I first contacted Rodney in a frantic state. The week leading up to making that call to Rodney was hectic. My relationship was on the rocks, I was under enormous pressure at work and I had a realisation that my world was crumbling down around me because I was unable to trust anyone. Something was out of balance and it became clear that it was me.

I contacted Rodney to help me overcome the horrible trust issues I harboured. Unbeknownst to me, it turns out I was still carrying a world of hurt from my previous relationship some 6 years earlier. I had developed so many barriers over the years to guard me from being hurt that I trusted no one! If I kept going on the path I was on, it would have been the demise of my new found love and I would have lost the one person I truly cared about.

I was so pent up with negativity and distrust that I proceeded to "grill" Rodney about his qualifications the moment I walked into my first session. Some 50 minutes later I was free from all that negativity and distrust. Now... All is well and I am moving forwards in my life and relationship.

How Do You Develop OCD?

The causes of OCD are not fully understood There are several theories about the causes of OCD, including:

Compulsions are learned behaviours, which become repetitive and habitual when they are associated with relief from anxiety.
OCD is due to genetic and hereditary factors.
Chemical, structural, and functional abnormalities in the brain are the cause.
Distorted beliefs reinforce and maintain symptoms associated with OCD.
It is possible that several factors interact to trigger the development of OCD. The underlying causes may be further influenced by stressful life events, hormonal changes and personality traits.

The exact cause of obsessive-compulsive disorder is not known, but it is thought that a combination of biological and environmental factors are involved.

Having a family member with OCD increases your risk of developing the condition. This may be because of a genetic link, although no specific genes have been identified as yet. OCD has also been linked to an imbalance of serotonin (a chemical in the brain) and differences in the function of certain areas of the brain, but more research is needed.

OCD may be more common in people who have experienced bullying, abuse or neglect.

So all the things mentioned above can cause you to develop OCD; However, it’s not that simple. We store our emotions in our bodies and they are anchored to our memories. So over time as you have more and more memories or experiences of being anxious, etc, you store these emotions in your body anchored to your memories and you accumulate them.

So imagine emotions are not on or off they are on a scale of say 1–10 so when you’re young your anxiety level is low say a 1 and as you get older and accumulate more memories of anxiety that level goes up to say 3, 6, 7 etc till it reaches a point where you really feel anxious. The level at which this happens differs from person to person.

So how does this really work well what you focus on is what you get and what you focus on is what you think about the most and what you think about the most is whatever has the most emotions anchored to it! That is why people usually get what they don’t want because it has the most emotion anchored to it.

So Let’s look at obsessions, you have a thought you then anchor emotions to that thought and over time the emotion anchored to the thought accumulates each time you have the thought. And because the more emotion you have anchored to the thought the more you will have the thought, it’s a feed-back loop that ensures that you keep having the thought and it only gets worse the more you anchor emotions to the thought.

This is also how compulsions develop the more emotions you anchor to the compulsion the more you anchor the compulsion in place and the more you will perform the compulsion.

So think of it like a skill you learn the more you practice doing the skill the better at you get at that skill until you automate the skill until it then become a subconscious skill you no longer have to think about it any more it just happens automatically. Driving is a good example of this when you first start you have to concentrate a lot then after a while you may end up at work only to realise you have absolutely no memory of how you got there. You automated driving to the point your subconscious could drive you to work while you were consciously thinking of other things hence you cannot remember how you got to work you subconsciously drove to work.

This is how we learn obsessions and compulsions except we learn them completely subconsciously and we practice doing them subconsciously. Obviously we didn’t choose to do them at a conscious level.

How Can Hypnotherapy Eliminate OCD Using Hypnotherapy for OCD?

Well, the only way I know that we can achieve this is through using NLP and hypnotherapy for OCD, by removing all the emotions associated with the OCD but be careful not all hypnotherapists practising hypnotherapy for OCD know how to work with emotions and remove them.

Different Types of Hypnosis for OCD

However, most hypnotherapy for OCD approaches don’t work to eliminate emotions in this way most hypnotherapists work by introducing suggestions into your subconscious mind to change your thoughts and hence your behaviours, so it can work great with behaviour problems but not emotions. Unfortunately, most hypnotherapists are taught this behavioural suggestion type of hypnosis for OCD.

Fortunately, I am trained in how to work with emotions, more importantly how to remove them, and this is the key to eliminating OCD.

I have been working with clients for years helping them eliminate their OCD by using hypnotherapy for OCD and other neuro-hypnotic re-patterning techniques.

This is achieved by removing or disconnecting the emotions from your memories and thoughts; Remember, you store your emotions in your body anchored to your memories and thoughts. So using these techniques, we can make your memories and thoughts emotionless.

So we will remove all emotions that trigger your obsessions and compulsions like anxiety, anger, sad, worthless, etc.

Test at the End of My Hypnotherapy for OCD Session

At the end of my hypnotherapy for OCD sessions as a test I get the client to go back to all their bad memories and thoughts to try to get any old emotions associated with them back, but hey cannot get any emotion associated with these memories or thoughts, they just feel blank or neutral. I also will get them to test a variety of contexts in their life such as work, self, relationships, future, etc. But all of these different contexts and memories and thoughts are the same they just feel blank or neutral.

Finally, I will get them to go back to all the times they can remember having obsessions or compulsions and they won’t be able to get any of the old emotions, physical sensations from those memories.

So at the end of the session these clients no longer have the OCD.
