People will experience depression in different ways; There is no one size fits all. There’s no simple answer for why depression happens. For some people, it can be a mix of stressful experiences or-everyday living issues that end up affecting how they feel, think and act. Once again, I cannot thank you enough! The amount of just feeling happy again is priceless.

You have given me back the old me, not to mention my family and friends too!

For nearly 11 years I have carried this burden with me which has had a huge impact on my life, and the choices I made surrounding these issues.

In only a 2 hour session, you have gracefully taken these horrible, hurtful and painful emotions away.

Relationship Conflict

Emotional trauma

When I first went to see Rodney I was in a very dark place. I was abused physically and mentally as a child by my mother, also sexually abused by more than one family member. I struggled with emotions for over 50 years.

I had recently had a meltdown and everything in my life came back emotionally. I went to see Rodney and I am in such a great place now.

Even when I think back on things in my life that once brought me down, they no longer affect me.

Thank you,

Rodney,

for all you have done.

How Do You Get Depression?

Below is a list of things that cause people to become depressed and they are very different. The first part of this list are things that can happen in your life that can trigger depression or contribute to it. This list is by no means complete, but this gives you examples of what can cause depression.

  • Abuse — past physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.
  • Medications — Some drugs can increase your risk of depression.
  • Conflict — depression may result from personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends.
  • Death or a loss — Sadness or grief from the death or loss of a loved one.
  • Major events — Even good events such as starting a new job, graduating, or getting married can lead to depression. So can moving, losing a job or income, getting divorced, or retiring.
  • Social problems — Social isolation can lead to depression.
  • Serious illnesses — Sometimes depression co-exists with a major illness or may be triggered by another medical condition.
  • Substance abuse — People with substance abuse problems may also have depression.

As a Hypnotherapist I Have a Different Take on How You Get Depression

So all of these things can trigger you into being depressed; However, it’s not that simple. We store our emotions in our body and they are anchored to our memories. So over time as you have more and more memories or experiences of being sad or depressed you store these emotions in your body anchored to your memories and you accumulate them.
So imagine emotions are not on or off they are on a scale of say 1–10 so when you’re young your depression level is low say a 1 and as you get older and accumulate more memories of sadness that level goes up to say 3, 6, 7 etc till it reaches a point where you really feel it, your depressed. The level at which this happens differs from person to person.
So all the events above have the potential to create a feeling of sadness or depression that gets stored in the body anchored to your memories and if you have enough of these events, you will get depressed. Sometimes it may only take one event, but normally it is usually and accumulation of events that will trigger off depression.

Lastly, a special case maybe none of the above events have happened to you that has triggered off any sadness or depression, well there is another way you can become depressed which explains how you can get depressed with the normal tell tall experiences.

Now emotions are contagious, so if you’re in the company of someone who is depressed you will tend to go into the same emotional state as that person, so you become depressed while you are with them. You may stay in that state for a while afterwards or for a longer period of time. So you’re creating a memory where you are anchoring sadness or depression.

Now with repeated exposure to this person who is depressed you will begin to accumulate more memories with depression anchored to it and at some point you have accumulate enough and you then become depressed yourself even though you may have no reason to be depressed.

So this usually shows up in families if your parents are depressed, as a child you will spend much of your time in a depressed state just from being around them all the time, so by the time you in your early 20s you may have depression and not know why. It's because you spent so much time in that state and accumulated many memories of depression. A lot of the time doctors confuse this with genetics and say you're predisposed to being depressed because it runs in your family due to your genes. But this is not the case; it is just exposure and environmental reasons; it is nurture not nature.

Another way this can show up is if you’re married to someone who is depressed then obviously you will slowly become depressed your self over time as you spend more time with them.

Do Anti-Depressant Drugs Work?

The use of drugs on depression is widespread. However, the problem with this approach is that medication masks the symptoms of the problem and doesn't deal with the problem. So you are effectively reliant on the drugs to get through life. While this may be good for the drug companies, it is definitely not ideal for you.

So why is this the case and how does it work? Firstly, you need to understand what emotions are? Emotions are made of two things: thoughts and physical sensations in the body.
So thoughts are images, colour, movies, sound dialog, talking to yourself and others in your head. The physical sensations are feeling hot or cold, heart racing, pins and needles, vibrations, pulsing sensations, butterflies in stomach, all of these sensations and many, many more are physical sensations in the body.
So the thought combined with the physical sensation form an emotion. Also, some of the physical signs listed above may not be part of the emotion but are intensified by them.

So when you take anti-depressants they mask the physical symptoms of the emotion depression and other related signs so there is an illusion that you feel better however all it is doing is numbing you so you cannot actually feel the physical symptoms. And that goes for all other emotions the drugs just numb the physical sensations of the emotion.

Cycle of Depression Reinforces the Depression

How we live actually recreates the old pattern or reinforces depression in our lives. Because the way we feel will change your behaviour, and then before you know it, we are doing the same thing which actually perpetuates the depression. Because of the way you feel, you don't have the energy or knowledge of how to deal with it. You just don't know how to get out of this state eventually you just give up, and you slowly sink lower and lower into depression.
So by stopping going out socialising and doing activities you're used to like , etc., and isolating yourself at home will just strengthen and solidify the depression just making things worse. It becomes a self actualising problem through your habituated behaviour which reinforces the depression.

How can hypnotherapy Eliminate Depression Using Hypnosis for Depression?

Well, the only way I know that we can achieve this is through using NLP and hypnosis for depression, by removing all the emotions associated with the depression but be careful not all hypnotherapists practising hypnosis for depression know how to work with emotions and remove them.

Different Types of Hypnotherapy for Depression

However, most hypnotherapy for depression approaches don’t work to eliminate depression in this way most hypnotherapists work by introducing suggestions into your subconscious mind to change your thoughts and hence your behaviours, so it can work great with behaviour problems but not emotions. Unfortunately, most hypnotherapists are taught this behavioural suggestion type of hypnotherapy for depression.

Fortunately, I was trained in how to work with emotions, more importantly how to remove them, and this is the key to eliminating depression.

I have been working with clients for years helping them eliminate their depression by using hypnotherapy for depression and other neuro-hypnotic re-patterning techniques.

This is achieved by removing or disconnecting the emotions from your memories; Remember your emotions are stored in your body anchored to your memories. So using these techniques, we can render your memories emotionless.

So we will remove all emotions that trigger your depression like anxiety, anger, sad, worthless, etc.

Test at the End of My Hypnotherapy Depression Session

At the end of my hypnotherapy depression sessions as a test I get the client to go back to all their bad memories and try to get any old emotions associated with them back, but hey cannot get any emotion associated with these memories, they just feel blank or neutral. I also will get them to test a variety of contexts in their life such as work, self, relationships, future, etc. But all of these different contexts and memories are the same they just feel blank or neutral.

Finally, I will get them to go back to all the times they can remember having the eating disorder behaviour and they won’t be able to get any of the old emotions, physical sensations from those memories.

So at the end of the session clients are no longer depressed.
